About:

Hi, my name is Callum. I am a 17 year-old student, and as part of my Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, I have been volunteering every Saturday morning at Bournemouth's 'Hope For Food' food bank.

My volunteering has inspired me to organise a fundraising bike ride for Sunday 14th June, in which I was asking people to join a ride around the Dorset countryside. Unfortunately, of course, this cannot go ahead due to COVID-19 and social distancing. I am now organising an online version - Ride At Home For Food.

Hope for Food relies entirely on donations from the public and receives no formal funding. They supply over 100 food parcels to people and families in need on a weekly basis who are referred via schools, GPs or social services.

Where possible, Hope for Food helps out with clothes, toiletries, cleaning products and household items; and they provide additional food parcels during school holidays when children no longer get school meals. This is one of the reasons why I am doing this - during my time as a volunteer, I have met some of the people who rely on Hope For Food for help and stability. Especially now, these people are particularly vulnerable, due to job loss and school closures – their children no longer have the benefit of free school meals.

I have made a short video to explain Hope For Food in a more visual manner: https://youtu.be/IIdO14j3QxE

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Ride For Food has now become ‘Ride At Home For Food’, where it is now open to everyone who can ride at home, either on a turbo-trainer or a short, socially distanced ride. We have set up a number of online cycling routes using commonly platforms that riders can join in from home and ride with us on the day. All we ask for in return is that riders pledge to make a small donation to Hope For Food, which you can do here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/callum-davis

I’m hoping to raise £5000.

It’s very easy to get involved:
- Visit our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/178594906688467/) to found out more details (even if you don't have a Facebook account, you can still view the page)
- Go to the JustGiving page to make a donation
- Ride with us on the 14th!
We would love to see your efforts on our Facebook page!
