Wessex FM's Local Hero Awards 2017 - The Winners

We had a brilliant evening at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, recognising our Local Hero Award winners.

porter dodson logoWell done to all of our winners, and to our sponsors, for such an inspiring, emotional, and fun evening for all.

It was tough work for the judges to choose our winners, but once you find out more about the winners, we think you'll agree that they were worthy of their trophies.

The Special Recognition Award - Holly Harris

Sponsored by Porter Dodson Solicitors and Advisors

This award isn’t part of our normal nomination categories.  It’s given when judges feel someone has shown exceptional qualities that need to be recognised in their own right.

In February last year 18-year-old Louis Harris from Dorchester went to Weymouth for a night out with friends, but sadly never came home.  His body was found in Weymouth Harbour four weeks later.

Louis’ Mum Holly Harris has shown true courage and bravery in taking a personal tragedy and using her experiences to educate young people about the dangers of drinking around water.

Maria spoke to her son Chris – to find out more about his Mum and the work that she does to make sure no other family has to experience what they’ve been through.
