35 businesses in the county town will be visited by a mystery shopper this week as part of the first Independent Retail Awards.

Independent retailers in Dorchester are getting ready to find out if they're top of the shops this week.

Around 35 businesses in the town will be visited by a mystery shopper who will assess them on everything from their customer service to how their window displays.

Its part of the first Independent Retail Awards in the town which are being run by Dorchester BID and Dorchester Chamber of Commerce.

Lucy Bowden from the Chamber told Wessex FM it's a great opportunity for all the shops involved.

She said: "It is important to recognise them, to guide them, to help them and to offer advice whenever possible as well as saying 'You're doing a fantastic job'."

"Also obviously we're enjoying shopping in Dorchester then visitors will enjoy shopping in Dorchester too."

There are five categories that entrants could win, which are Best Customer Service, Best Window Display, Best Use of Social Media and Website, Best Newcomer, Best Individual Member of Staff and the Overall Winner.

Judging will take place over the next few weeks with the winners and runners-up being announced at a special awards ceremony in March.
