Pascal Surret, one of the partners behind Winfrith Village Stores, has written a Case Study on how they transformed the shop in less than a year, which faced a risk of closure before they bought it in January 2013.

A Dorset village shop that was at risk of closing is now sharing the secrets of its success, in the hope it will help others to survive.

Since its turnaround, Winfrith Village Stores has picked up a Wessex FM Business Award and was also name Best Village Shop by Dorset Community Action last year.

The shop was under threat before 2013, but business partner Pascal Surret has now written a case study into how they transformed the business, increasing its monthly turnover by 30 per cent.

Sharon Narraway, a local villager, said: "This local village shop has helpful, friendly staff and owners who are always around to help. The range of food and drink now on offer is amazing."

The category was sponsored by the Dorset branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) which is campaigning to help save village shops.
