The new President of the Chamber of Commerce has launched a petition to give local residents and businesses a chance to challenge the council's parking policies.

Business leaders in Weymouth and Portland are fighting back at plans to put up parking charges.

The new President of the Chamber of Commerce has launched a petition to give local residents and businesses a chance to challenge the council's parking policies.

Michelle Hind said:  "For too long now parking in Weymouth and Portland has been a cash cow for the local authority and times simply have to change. Whilst the Chamber appreciates Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's financial situation it is simply not acceptable to deal with them by driving motorists out of town through increased car parking charges. WPCC will shortly be organising a petition in accordance with the new legislation to give local residents and businesses the opportunity to challenge WPBC's parking policies and demand that enough is enough."
