A Weymouth businesswoman who launched a company in December has seen it grow so quickly she is already moving into bigger premises in order to cope.

Cara Franses has been supported by WSX Enterprise's Driving Urban Enterprise project and anticipates taking on her first employee in the autumn.

Stripey Finds provides perfect products for all events including weddings, celebrations and children's parties.

It also supplies survival kits for a host of occasions such as hen nights, festivals and holidays, and has a range of presents and gift ideas.

Cara set up the business in the top floor of her house in Weymouth, Dorset, but it soon began to take over her home.

She has now has acquired larger premises in Southwell on the Isle of Portland.

The speed of growth has astonished Christine Collins from WSX Enterprise who has been supporting her after they met at a 'New in Business' course.

Cara, who has a degree in interior textile design and has worked in a variety of jobs including HR and events, said: "Before I set up the business I did a whole year of research looking
at products, pricing and competitors.

"I then went on Christine's two-day course and was as prepared as I could be when I launched Stripey Finds. WSX's courses and events have been incredibly helpful, especially with networking and the technical side of things.

"Already Stripey Finds is the preferred supplier to seven venues and I have dozens of events planned for the year.

"With the new premises I will be able to store more stock but also I can hold consultations there and give a much better service.

"Together with the customer we'll refine an idea to make an event personal. Already I've worked with a number of nervous brides.

"One thing I have done is design and manufacture church-friendly confetti flickers made from natural, scented ingredients. I couldn't find anyone who was supplying them so I made my own.

"It doesn't matter how large or small an event is or whether it's personal or corporate - I can help.

"I aim to take on my first staff member - possibly an apprentice - later in the year.

"Moving to new premises will make such a difference - and my husband Mark will no doubt be happy too."

Christine said: "This really is a textbook case of how to start a business, and the speed of growth has been exceptional.

"Cara did detailed research and has been a regular attender at our meetings, courses and events which she says has helped her avoid various pitfalls."
