A new partnership is being launched this month made up of many local organisations representing various aspects of the industry who wish to join forces to develop and improve Weymouth and Portland’s tourism offer.

Plans to develop and improve tourism in Weymouth and Portland even further are taking a massive step forward.

The Weymouth and Portland Partnership which consists of groups, organisations and attractions, will work together and share ideas.

The idea is to encourage residents and visitors to embrace what's on their doorstep.

Simon Newport, General Manager of First Wessex and the newly elected Chairman of the Weymouth & Portland Tourism Partnership said: "The main aim of the partnership is to bring tourism providers in Weymouth and Portland together to share ideas and communicate with each other.

"We want to encourage residents and visitors to make the most of the fabulous venues and deals in the local area without travelling further afield.

"If you feel you have an offer or opportunity to encourage customers to stay local, tell us about it and we'll ensure that other service providers know and can inform their customers."

The partnership brings representatives from attractions, accommodation, restaurant and food providers, business organisations, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council and transport together to develop and deliver local tourism benefits.

The partnership believes that there is an important need to provide a unified representation of the tourism industry that supports growth and encourages investment. This will allow opportunities to share experience and good practice between group members.
