West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council recently hosted their spring landlords seminar, the first since the launch of the Landlords Local Authority Partnership (LLAP).

The early evening event was hosted at South Walks House, Dorchester and attended by some 80 landlords and property professionals from the area.

The event started with a networking opportunity and time for attendees to meet council staff. Following this, the seminar moved onto a series of informative presentations on issues currently affecting the private rented sector.

West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Housing Improvement Manager, Geoff Joy, who chaired the seminar, said: “It was good to see so many landlords and property professionals meet on the evening and have the chance to exchange ideas and draw on their shared experiences and knowledge.

“The council partnership is committed to working with private landlords in providing support and professional advice to jointly drive up the standards of rented accommodation in the area.”

Feedback from the seminar was positive with focus falling particularly on the interesting speakers and informative presentations on issues such as immigration checks and tax issues for landlords. Lively discussions followed many of the evening’s presentations.

Jacqui Swann from Battens Solicitors said “The seminar covered a wide variety of topics and the council’s enthusiasm for this partnership is very clear and quite contagious.”

The next LLAP seminar will be held on 23 September. Landlords and property professionals wishing to become members and attend future seminars, can visit www.dorsetforyou.com/417112 to join the LLAP for free.
