The annual raft of industry awards for the cheese world kicked off last month with the British Cheese Awards which are now permanently rooted at the Royal Bath & West in the heart of Somerset – cheddar making country.

Dorset based cheesemakers, Ford Farm, have excelled at the British Cheese Awards, receiving 14 prizes.

Held at the Royal Bath and West, the annual British Cheese Awards sets the public standards for the cheese industry and aims to recognise cheesemakers all over the country for their dedication to British cheese.

Ford Farm received the overall trophy for best PDO cheddar, going to their Oscar worthy Wookey Hole Cave Aged cheddar, which was also crowned 'Supreme Champion' at the South West Cheese Awards in 2012.

They also left the awards with five golds, five silvers and three bronzes, including a Gold Medal in the Export category for its foothold in the USA.

Mike Pullin, Director at Ford Farm comments: ‘Consumers are much more savvy nowadays and are far more likely to place their trust in a credible third party than a brand’s own advertising.  The British Cheese Awards, which is followed by British Cheese Week is becoming more widely recognised by the general public as the benchmark for quality and flavour.

Being able to place a sticker on our cheese announcing our achievements is a guarantee of increased sales.’
