Plans for this year's Dorchester Carnival are well underway.

Plans for this year's Dorchester Carnival are well underway and the organisers are now inviting local groups to enter the procession.

The procession will take place on Saturday 18 June and it is free for anyone to take part.

Jenny Webster, who is organising the procession, said: "The theme this year is storytime which should give loads of opportunity for dressing up and decorating floats.

"Don't worry if you can't get hold of a lorry to do a float though.  We are just as keen to have walking entries from groups and we plan to give money back to local community groups who enter.

"We want to build on the success of last year's carnival and make this one even better.  We'd love to have a really good procession on the Saturday afternoon but to do that we need everyone around Dorchester to get into the community spirit and join in."

The committee is working hard already on plans to make the whole weekend a great event for local people.  With the help of other local groups, they hope to bring back the firm favourites such as the party in the park and the four legged race.

Debs Thomas, chair for the 2016 carnival committee, said: "We're planning lots of other things over carnival weekend and you can keep up to date with the latest news on the carnival website or on our Facebook page."
