West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council recently hosted their spring landlords seminar.

West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council recently hosted their spring landlords seminar. The early evening event was hosted at South Walks House, Dorchester and was attended by some 70 landlords and property professionals from the area.

The event started with a networking opportunity and time for attendees to meet council staff. The seminar then moved onto a series of informative presentations on current issues affecting the private rented sector.

West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Housing Improvement Manager Geoff Joy said: "It was good to see so many landlords and property professionals meet on the evening and have the chance to exchange ideas, draw on their shared experiences and knowledge and to listen to really informative presentations on current issues facing landlords.

"Both the borough and district council are committed to working with private sector landlords in providing support and professional advice to jointly drive up the standards of rented accommodation in the area."

Feedback from the seminar was positive with focus falling particularly on the interesting speakers and informative presentations on issues such as tax planning, immigration checks, avoiding landlord tenant disputes, and water hygiene in the home.

The landlords seminars, which are council-run, are held biannually as part of the Landlords Local Authority Partnership (LLAP). The next LLAP seminar will be held in September. Landlords and property professionals wishing to become members and attend future seminars, can visit www.dorsetforyou.com/417112 to join the LLAP for free.
