Business leaders are set to probe the impact of Brexit for Dorset and Great Britain at a major summit.

Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has joined forces with Bournemouth University (BU) for the special event, titled Brexit - What Next for Business?

It is being held at Bournemouth University's Talbot campus on Wednesday August 17 from 8.30am to 10.30am.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), Institute of Directors (IOD), Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), Poole Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and Ferndown Chamber of Commerce are among the wide range of organisations supporting the event.

Dr Adam Marshall, who is acting director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, will act as chairman.

Members of the panel at the event will include Professor Nigel Jump, who is an economist at Bournemouth University, Sunseeker International chief executive Phil Popham and Vincent Boni, who is managing director at Newsquest Dorset.  The event is being held specifically for business leaders and directors.

Ian Girling, who is DCCI chief executive, said: "With business opinion split over the short and long term impact of Brexit on the economy, the time is right to consider the future for Dorset and UK plc.

"The panel will identify issues raised by members and the wider business community, and give delegates the opportunity to examine the challenges and opportunities ahead.

"Together with Bournemouth University, we are pleased to welcome Dr Adam Marshall from the BCC.

"The involvement of the BCC and many of the major business organisations and companies in Dorset shows just how important an issue Brexit has become.

"We are grateful to them all and the speakers for their support and look forward to a lively debate."

The purpose of the event is also to provide the BCC with information to support its national lobbying on behalf of business.

DCCI, the voice of business in Dorset, is the only chamber in the county to be affiliated to the BCC.

It has about 800 members representing more than 37,000 employees and has eight affiliated chambers. They are Swanage and District Chamber of Trade, Weymouth and Portland, Broadstone, Dorchester, Poole, Bridport, Ferndown and Shaftesbury.

DCCI is a non-partisan organisation which aims to provide information and support for its members as the implications of Brexit become clear.
