A Bridport pub is in with a chance of winning a national award.

The Ropemakers in West Street are now in the finals for the Great British Pub Awards - Community Pub of 2016 and could be named best British Pub of the year.

Judges will be visiting them this month to look at all aspects of their business.

The final winners will be announced in October.

Entries to this award this year topped 1,300 entries.

John and Geraldine of the Ropemakers have been there for nine years now and have steadily built up the reputation of the pub in many ways including improvements to the food on offer and the selection of quality live music at the weekends.

They are both very proud and pleased to have got this far and would like to thank everybody who has been involved.

They believe that the pub should be involved at the centre of the community and they are one of Britain's oldest and most popular social institutions.
