A quarter of a million pounds is being invested into the former BAE Systems building on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth.

A quarter of a million pounds is being invested into a prime employment site  on Weymouth's Granby Industrial Estate.

Developers DJ Property have told Wessex FM they want to modernise Leanne House, on Avon Close.

Mickey Jones, Chief Executive of DJ Property, said: "At DJ Property we are considered as the number one trusted, professional developer of commercial property in South Dorset and therefore it is important that we construct new buildings but also continue to invest in the existing buildings on the Granby Industrial Estate.”

“Leanne House was constructed in 1987 and leased to BAE Systems plc in 1988.  BAE occupied the 30,000 sq. ft. building until September 2016 when they relocated to space at the Weymouth & Portland Land Registry.”

“It is our intention to substantially modernise this prime employment site by transforming the offices into a high quality commercial building, similar to those built at Link Park.   DJ Property is always seeking out investment opportunities in underutilised employment assets i.e. buildings which are tired, sad and who have lost direction.   I will be investing approximately £250,000.00 in the building and substantially modernising many aspects, specifically replacing all doors and windows.”

“The building has a large number of windows, allowing lots of natural light into the property.  This produces a great working environment and it very energy efficient.”

“The building fascia will also be transformed by using a light grey cladding rather than a dark brown, giving it a smart corporate feel but it will also reflect the sun's making it more comfortable in the summer months.”

BAE employs almost 35,000 people in the UK and are one of the largest defence companies in the world.  Mr Jones went on to say; "It is very good news for South Dorset that BAE have decided to remain based in Weymouth and that their move has given DJ Property the opportunity to redevelop, invest and create additional employment in a prestigious large commercial building on Granby Industrial Estate".

The final end use of this new employment space is yet to be decided, however, with 30,000 sq. ft. of prime office space located in the centre of a thriving industrial estate and parking for over 150 cars, the opportunities are vast.

Almost 100% of DJ Property's units on the Granby Industrial Estate, Lynch Lane Industrial Estate and Link Park are currently occupied.

Buildings at Link Park and many on Granby Industrial Estate are amongst the highest quality available in South Dorset and many benefit from reduced cost solar PV generated electricity.
