Success is being celebrated at Greenwood Grange after scooping Gold in the self catering category at the Dorset Tourism Awards.

The collection of stone built luxury holiday cottages at Thorncombe Woods near Dorchester were commended for their facilities.

The awards highlight the best with the tourism industry and saw a 40 per cent increase in entries this year.

Manager, Zoe Belcher, said: "Being shortlisted was an honour in itself, but to take home the gold trophy is testament to the hard work and effort that the staff at Greenwood Grange put into making the stay of all of our guests extra special."

The finalists were selected from towns across Dorset, including Bournemouth, Lyme Regis, Poole, Weymouth and Christchurch.

The properties are nestled in the Dorchester countryside, just five minutes from Thomas Hardy's birthplace.

A black tie dinner was held at the Tank Museum, in Bovington, where more than 60 trophies were handed out across 20 categories. Judges described Greenwood Grange as 'outstanding' and 'exuding confidence'.

Winning gold automatically ensures that Greenwood Grange will be considered for a similar category in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards being held early next year, with the possibility of going on to represent Dorset in the VisitEngland Awards.

This is the third time Greenwood Grange has celebrated success in the self-catering category at the Dorset Tourism Awards, having won gold in 2013 and 2014. There was also a win in 2013 at the South West Tourism Awards, with a bronze trophy.

Zoe said: "It was quite nerve-wracking as we were up against last year's winner. We're just thrilled, it's so great for the whole team from the part-time cleaning staff to the directors."

The team at Greenwood Grange has spent the past 12-18 months carrying out a range of renovations and upgrades throughout the properties and grounds.

"In order to be selected for an award you have to prove that you're constantly improving your product or service, that you're constantly reviewing what you are doing. We have had some fantastic Trip Advisor reviews from guests this year and this win is a real bonus," said Zoe.

Greenwood Grange offers a range of properties sleeping anywhere from two to 12 guests. Many of the properties are dog friendly and there is a range of facilities on site including tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, badminton, a games room and a play yurt for younger visitors.
