There was much celebration in Poundbury as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall opened the aptly named Duchess of Cornwall Inn.

Run by the Hall & Woodhouse brewery, the new establishment will offer the finest of southern English beers as well as 20 bedrooms.

The royal couple have long supported local pubs.

For Hall & Woodhouse's Managing Director Anthony Woodhouse, the day was the culmination of the Duchy of Cornwall's long-term vision for the new town: "We're lucky enough, and privileged enough, to have our pub sitting right at the centre of that (vision)."

He hopes the Inn, "will become the living heartbeat of the Poundbury community and the wider Dorset community."

David Hoare is Hall & Woodhouse's Development Director. He has been the creative mind behind the newest addition to Poundbury, citing Hogwarts and the works of photographer Tim Walker as inspiration.

"When he (Prince Charles) walked in here, he had no expectation of what it was going to look like. I think we surprised him," David believes.

The grand opening was part of Thursday's royal visit, in which The Queen unveiled a statue of the late Queen Mother.
