The aim is to make it one of the best in the South West.

Dorchester Sports Centre has received over £250,000 to turn it into one of the most advanced leisure centres in the South West.

The leisure centre revamp has been made possible after it received financing through a funding partnership with West Dorset County Council and is scheduled to be completed in December.

Some of the fresh changes being put in place include immersive technology being fitted into two new studios and an interactive group cycling studio called PRAMA.

The introduction of the PRAMA fitness studio will include an interactive lights and music system that can be adapted to create either a high energy atmosphere or a relaxing environment for users during their exercise sessions.

The Dorchester Sports Centre manager, Wayne Long said:

"The PRAMA studio is the only one available in Dorset and it is suitable for all age groups, abilities and sports teams.

Wayne added "It includes a PRAMA kids programme which will inspire and challenge our Junior members with its interactive hi-tech system which is fun, appealing and perfect for the millennial generation which is so familiar with touch screen technology."

Councillor Mary Penfold Holder for Enabling said:

"Since opening in 2012, Dorchester Sports Centre has proved a great success with over 300,000 visits made each year by residents of Dorchester and the surrounding communities.

"The centre needs to meet growing demand and keep informed of new trends in fitness in order to encourage residents to get active and stay healthy.

"The investment in new fitness facilities, which make exercise more fun, is therefore a great addition to a thriving facility."
