Tesco Urge Shoppers To Donate Food
9:24am 5th July 2013
You can help provide for people in Dorset who can't afford to feed themselves, all whilst you do your food shop at your local Tesco's.
In store they'll be collecting food supplies this Friday and Saturday (5th & 6th of July) to redistribute to local food banks and charities helping those who're struggling in our county.
It's all part of a Nationwide project where Tesco's have joined up with the Foodbanks Charity, the Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity FareShare, and are hoping to hold the biggest ever food collection in the UK.
We spoke to Lisa Bedford, the Community Champion for the Dorchester store. She explained how easy it is to get involved, "All they have to do is just basically, when they go round, just put in an extra tin, an extra box of cereal, and then as they leave the store just hand it to the people in the foyer that are collecting."
She added that it's important to realise people in our area do struggle to afford food, "I didn't realise until looking into it, from doing this and various other things, that there is as much poverty as there is in the local area, and it opens your eyes and it's just fantastic that people can help out."
