EastEnders Star To Open West Bay Day

9:01am 24th July 2013

A former EastEnders star will open West Bay Day next month.

Ricky Groves who played Gary Hobbs in the soap and who also appeared in Strictly Come Dancing will be outside the Harbour Master's Office at 2pm on 4 August.

He will also be available to sign autographs and chat to people afterwards.

He said: "I have only recently discovered this part of Dorset and West Bay, it is a great place. The harbour, beaches, dramatic cliffs and beautiful countryside make it a wonderful place to visit.

"I am very pleased to have been asked to open West Bay Day, which should be lots of fun for everyone. Why not come down, see the sights and have a great day out."

A huge range of fun activities will be on offer during the day, which has been organised by West Dorset District Council, including: live music, Jurassic candles on the quay, stalls, river boating, a bouncy castle, skateboarding, a children's crabbing competition, gig rowing have-a-go sessions, a cupcake decorating competition and Chairman's Teas, an outdoor church service, a history of West Bay Day Exhibition, traditional skittles, water polo and a model boat display.

There will be an outdoor bar run by the Crown Inn, which is sponsoring one of the bands who will be performing late into the night on the Mound.

We're also being promised a surprise spectacle with a connection to the hit TV series Broadchurch.
