Sites Earmarked for Housing Scrapped, Final Say on Plans Due

Dorset Map

7:29am 13th August 2013

Plans for housing developments in West Dorset have been dropped from the local plan after you told the local authority what you think.

Sites near Dorchester and at Hollymoor Lane in Beaminster have been removed after a public consultation.

It's now time to have your final say on proposals before they go to the Planning Inspectorate.

Areas allocated for development at Crossways and at Markham & Little Francis in Weymouth have also been reduced.

Leader of West Dorset District Council, Robert Gould said:

"The draft plan has changed in a number of ways since it was originally presented to the public for consultation last year.

"With this in mind, it makes sense to check what people think of the plan a final time before it is reviewed by the Planning Inspectorate."

Ian Roebuck Weymouth & Portland brief holder for Environment and Sustainability said:

"The changes relating to Weymouth and Portland incorporated into the plan have been made to reflect the views of local people as expressed in previous consultations.

"Any comments given through this latest consultation will help the Planning Inspectorate to determine that this is a sound plan that broadly aligns with the wishes of local people."

The latest draft of the Local Plan and the current consultation can be accessed online here.

The consultation will close on 20 September 2013.  Only comments on the changes to the plan can be made at this stage, but all the comments already made on the rest of the plan will be considered by the inspector during the examination.
The draft Local Plan sets out a long term planning strategy to meet future housing, employment and leisure needs.

It also looks at how climate change can be tackled, the environment protected and how future developments can be made more sustainable.

It covers important issues such as where housing could be built, how the economy can be boosted and what infrastructure may be needed.

Copies of the draft plan are available for inspection at the council offices between 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm Fridays. Comments can be e-mailed to s.policy@westdorset-weymouth.gov.uk
