Hopes Flying High To Save Kite Festival
7:41am 17th October 2013
People from the local community and kite enthusiasts are stepping forward with ideas to take on Weymouth's popular Kite Festival.
The Borough Council says they've had interest from a number of groups about running the event.
They announced they would stop funding the Kite Festival last month.
The Local Authority has organised a meeting for people interested in taking over the show at Weymouth Pavilion next Friday (25th October) from 2pm.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Management Committee Chairman, Cllr Mike Goodman, said: "The future of the kite festival has not been decided yet but it is important we are prepared in case the council can't afford to continue the event.
"We want anyone who is interested in supporting the festival in future to come forward and let us know what services they can offer or perhaps whether they would be interested in sponsoring the event. We are very keen to explore new partnerships or new ways of working where possible."
People are being asked to register their interest in attending. If you wish to come along please e-mail Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Events Manager Charlotte Sheppard: C.Sheppard@westdorset-weymouth.gov.uk
Final decisions will not be made until February 2014.
