Mystery Soldier on Dorset Memorial
8:25am 21st October 2013
There's a call for help to find out more about a mystery soldier whose been added to a Dorchester memorial in the Borough Gardens.
Very little is known about Private C Reed who fought in the Tirah Campaign in the late 1890's. Military researchers say he was posted as "missing" following the Indian Rebellion but little else is known.
The soldiers name now appears on the Tirah Memorial in the towns gardens after a volunteer from the Keep Military Museum discovered he was not included, when comparing names on the brass plate in Sherborne Abbey.
Dorchester's Military Keep Museum say they'd be "delighted to hear from any descendants" of Private C Reed, you can contact them on 01305 264066.
The Memorial has undergone a spruce up in time for this years service in the Borough Gardens this Wednesday (23rd October) at 11am - all are welcome to attend.
