Childcare Offered To Recruit More Firefighters
2:26pm 23rd October 2013
On call child care is being offered in Maiden Newton for parents who are interested in starting a career as a retained fire fighter.
You can find out more about the scheme at Maiden Newton Fire Station tonight from 7pm until 8.30pm.
You'll be able to try out some of the equipment and talk to other fire fighters about their experiences.
Steve Cheeseman, Retained Recruitment and Engagement Officer said "This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in joining the retained firefighters in Maiden Newton or across Dorset to come along and have an informal chat. We are currently looking to recruit individuals who can provide cover during the working day, at evenings and weekends."
Andy Elliott, Station Commander at Maiden Newton said: "If parents are concerned about childcare whilst being on call, the Maiden Newton crews have negotiated an 'on call' childcare facility in partnership with the local preschool group. This is for a trial period but will be extended if it proves successful."
Theresa Critchell of the preschool group says "We are delighted to take part in this trial as it means that the parents of young children can now be available to respond to emergencies, having a child at home should not prevent potential recruits from considering a career as a retained firefighter".
For more information on becoming a retained firefighter at Maiden Newton please attend the open evening, have a look at our website www.dorsetfire.gov.uk or contact Steve Cheeseman on 01305 252600 for an informal chat.
