Good Grafiti Coming To Dorset Towns
12:03am 3rd November 2013
Have you ever left a 'tag' on a building or wall around Dorset?
People who graffiti on local structures will now be given specific areas to display their artwork as part of a competition.
The 'Good Graffiti' project will see three blank walls put up in Bridport, Sherborne and Dorchester over the next couple of months. The competition's open to anyone who puts something on the walls, which will be locally monitored to make sure the content is appropriate, according to Organiser Gillian Summers.
Gillian spoke to Wessex FM telling us that pieces on the walls will be photographed, then put up on the Good Graffiti's facebook page. A winner will be chosen in April according to who has the most 'likes' on their photographed piece.
She added that there would be an award ceremony and that the winner could gain paid work through the project, "Some of those kids have talent, and we'd love to see them succeed. I've already had, on the website, an offer of work for the winner."
We asked Gillian why she'd set up the project, "It (graffiti) just makes the town look untidy, so it's a form of vandalism that we would prefer not to see. I want to reduce the amount of tagging we see around the town. This is a positive project to get people to explore their talent in the right places."
The first wall's location will be announced this week, to find out more head to: https://www.facebook.com/goodgraffiti
