Young Volunteers Overcome Adversity

day cente garden

8:16am 11th November 2013

It's been revealed young volunteers who won lavish praise for transforming the garden at a day centre in Bridport have themselves overcome major difficulties in their own lives.

Last week we heard how a team of Princes Trust volunteers planned and completed the makeover despite appalling weather conditions in just two weeks.

Team Leader Andy Dukes says the team showed real commitment despite some of them having issues with homelessness, drug addiction and criminal records.

Stella Crew, who works at the centre, says she would give them a job, because of the good positive impression they've created.

She says more of the services users, who suffer from a mixture of physical and learning difficulties, now want to use the garden either to work out there as a hobby or for relaxation as they enhance their communication skills.

But she says such is the demand to work that they're now short of equipment, and is appealing for more gardening tools.

If you can help contact Stella at the Bridport Day Centre in Flood Lane, Bridport on 01308 422666.
