One of Dorset's newest sporting events has been named "The Best in the UK" by a leading sports magazine
Runners World gave the Purbeck Marathon top marks for its challenging race and scenic countryside views.
96% of runners who've done the gruelling marathon said they'd do it again.
Raced over the classic Marathon distance of 26.2 miles (and a bit extra) the race starts and finishes in the beautiful Victorian resort of Swanage, passes historic sites such as Corfe Castle and Tyneham village, takes in breath-taking views of the Isle of Wight and Isle of Portland, crosses a busy steam railway, a tank firing range and passes through picturesque villages.
A further element that makes the race totally unique is the opportunity to cool tired legs with a dip in the sea just yards from the finish line!
The popular race has only been going for 2 years. The organisers have announced that entries for the 2014 Purbeck Marathon on 14 September are already open with details available at www.purbeckmarathon.co.uk.
Here are some of the comments from runners who completed the Purbeck Marathon;
"Can't fault it. Brilliant race."
"Hats off to the organisers and incredibly supportive and friendly marshals for putting on such a professional and well run event - the locally produced ice creams and beer at the stunning seafront finish just add the icing on the cake. Come on ...... if you haven't run this race before then I thoroughly recommend you give it a try."
"Brilliantly organised and very friendly atmosphere"
"Great route, great challenge, great atmosphere, great organisation and great support. Thank you very much to all who made it happen."
