Council's Forced To Cut Budgets

Living Wage Protest County Hall 1

8:56am 9th January 2014

Unison is warning that services in Dorset could suffer if local councils are forced to make further budget cuts.

Their figures show that central government support for the county council has fallen since the coalition took over two years ago.

More than £66,000 was cut from Dorset County Council's budget in 2012 - 2013 compared to the two previous years.

Tanya Palmer, UNSION South West Regional Manager, said:

“These budget cuts are damaging, and hitting at the heart of what councils can deliver in terms of providing good quality services across the South West. Things like caring for the elderly and the vulnerable or picking up the bins and monitoring schools performance are now second priority areas, these are essential services that councils deliver across the region and these massive cuts threaten those and many other vital services”.
