Firefighters Needed In Recruitment Drive On Portland
8:15am 12th January 2014
A recruitment drive's being launched to find more on call fire fighters on Portland.
To qualify for the role you need to live 4 minutes from Portland Fire Station.
It's opening its doors to potential recruits on Thursday 16th January from 7pm - 8.30pm.
You can go along and meet the crew, talk to them about their experiences and even try out some of the equipment they use.
Steve Cheeseman, Retained Recruitment and Engagement Officer said "This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in joining the retained firefighters on Portland or across Dorset to come along and have an informal chat. We are currently looking to recruit individuals who can provide cover during the working day as well as at evenings and weekends."
Simon Dennett, District Commander for Weymouth and Portland said: "We are really keen to recruit more on-call firefighters across Dorset but in particular at Portland. Being an on-call firefighter means living or working within four minutes of the fire station being able to respond to an emergency when you are needed. Retained firefighters are really important to Dorset Fire and Rescue and the training provided and skills learnt do transfer into your other employment."
For more information on becoming a retained firefighter on Portland please attend the open evening, have a look at our website www.dorsetfire.gov.uk or contact Steve Cheeseman on 01305 252600 for an informal chat.
