Quad Bikes Ready for Weymouth!

Quad Bikes

8:19am 14th January 2014

Get ready to hear riders from all over Europe revving their motorcycles, quad bikes and beach buggies on Weymouth's sands.

It's the return of the Dickies Quad Beach Cross, where adult and youngsters will compete on a mile-long beach course designed to test riders to their limits!

This year there will a screened pay-to-view area along the Promenade, from Weymouth Pavilion to Kings Statue, run by the organiser ORE Events. Tickets will be £5 per person, with anyone under 16 attending for free. According to the Borough Council, the decision to make the international cross a paid-for event came after a consultation by ORE Events and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council with residents and businesses in Autumn last year.

The Council are keen to reassure locals that the agreement with ORE Events will ensure that a pedestrian thoroughfare along the Promenade will be maintained at all times, together with unhindered access to the beach from north of the beach to Jubilee Clock. They also say that an agreed proportion of the spectator income will be paid to Weymouth & Portland Borough Council as an event hire fee.

As Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Tourism and Culture Brief Holder Ian Bruce further explained, "This is an exciting new event for the borough, generating a much needed economic boost to the town in the off peak season with visitors using our shops, cafes and accommodation providers. The pay per view spectator area will provide necessary funds to sustain and develop the event for 2014 and the future. We would also like to have feedback from people about what they think of the Dickies Quad Beach Cross to help develop plans for the future."

The 2014 event will be held as a trial event, so the Borough Council are asking for feedback from those who attend to help organise any future arrangements.

The event will take place over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of February. Youth riders, from 8 to 16 years will perform on the Saturday, and on the Sunday the adults will show off their skills.
