Dorset Villages Face Off to Claim "Best" Award
7:53am 3rd February 2014
Is your village 'Simply the Best'?
With 55 villages competing last year, organisers want to see even more entering Dorset's Best Village 2014.
It's the 28th year of the competition which is run by Dorset Community Action (DCA) group.
There's also the opportunity to enter 'The People's Project' or new category- 'Best Village Shop'.
DCA's Competition Organiser Rita Burden told Wessex FM it's worth everyone entering, "Last year 55 villages entered one or more categories of "Best Village", so our aim this year is to encourage even more communities to take part in this very rewarding competition. There are many who have never entered and all have the potential to win. Any organisation can enter its community - the parish council, village hall committee, school, youth club, scout or guide group or other active community group. Even Dorset's small hamlets can enter. "
"We are not looking for a "chocolate box" picture village, but a village that works together and takes a pride in its surroundings and amenities thus promoting a good community spirit" Rita Burden added.
The DCA have said entry packs are being sent to the county's villages inviting them to enter either through the parish council, village hall committee or other active community group.
The deadline for entries is 5pm on Monday 7th April 2014, apart from the Environmental Champions Award where entrants have to register an interest in taking part by 7th April, with a final entry date of 22nd August.
