8:52am 11th March 2014
A special donation is being made in Burton Bradstock this afternoon in honour of a woman who dedicated 27 years of her life to helping the British Red Cross.
84 year old Diana Mary Bailey co-ordinated local fundraising efforts and raised thousands of pounds for the charity.
She died last July.
A wheelchair is being donated in her memory to the local church.
Speaking about the dedication of her friend to the Red Cross, Marjorie Lathey said: "Mary was a really special lady and very heavily involved in the Red Cross locally, helping to arrange lots of different fundraising events, She simply wanted to help other people. Everyone who work alongside her misses her greatly."
Mary, who moved to Burton Bradstock from West regularly attended St Mary's Church.
The wheelchair will be kept at the church for use by parishioners and other visitors who may need mobility assistance to attend church events and services.
Marjorie said: " I am very honoured to be making this presentation. Mary was a faithful member of St Mary's Church and a dedicated participant of the Red Cross. I think she would have appreciated this memorial. It's a very suitable way to remember such a hardworking and devoted volunteer."
