Tick Tock Test! Check Your Smoke Alarms When You Change Clocks

Kate Huelin DFRS

8:53am 26th March 2014

Tick, Tock, Test. Check your smoke alarms when you change your clocks!

That's the message Dorset Fire and Rescue are putting across when we 'spring forward' into British Summer Time this weekend.

They say its the perfect excuse not to forget the fitness of your smoke alarm as its a potential life saver.

Kate Huelin, Prevention Manager at Dorset Fire and Rescue says everyone notices when a clock stops working but its not so easy to be sure your smoke alarm's in working order. Whether the battery's flat, has been used for a kid's toy, or the connection's loose, everyone should take time to test, and 'Tick Tock Test' is an easy way to remember to do so.

She also says anyone who doesn't have a working smoke alarm can contact Dorset Fire and Rescue and they will arrange for a home visit.

In the UK last year 211 people died from fires in the home, 70% of whom were not alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm.
