Pavement Pounding Around Dorchester Today

(Updated 12:59pm 30th March 2014)

12:00am 30th March 2014

Runners of all shapes and sizes are getting ready to pound the pavements around Dorchester this morning (Sunday 30th March).

The Lions 10K and 2K Fun Run is back for another year with the longer timed event taking in Poundbury and a scenic route to Maiden Castle.

The start gun fires at 10:25am and organisers expect around 300 runners to take part for the event that's raising funds for Aids Uk and the Alzheimer's Society.

Runners can register on the morning before the race gets underway.

Andy Rose from the Lions Club says the 10K race is hitting new heights and gaining popularity;

"Our 10K route is really popular and has been advertised on Runners World. It's an event, or a route, that's proving very popular with seasoned 10K runners because it's scenic and it takes in both off road and on road tracks, and the runners seem to enjoy that."

Wessex FM will be at the race cheering the runners on and Andy says he's hoping for better weather this year;

"Last year was bitterly cold and no doubt kept some of our younger runners away. It's going to be warmer and the wind will drop. It should be a nice warmer day for everyone."
