Search On To Find A New Home For Adult Care In Bridport

Elderly Care

9:01am 11th April 2014

Where should a new community hub for adult social care go in Bridport?

The search is now on for possible locations.

The County Council is going to invest £4.7M into modernising services.

Councillor Jill Hayes who looks after adult social care says she has a pretty good idea where people want it to go.

"We're now going to be looking to see where we might possibly sight the hub and what facilities need to be in the hub.  I know everyone would like to see it as close to the town centre as possible - so now we'll just have to look and see what we can find."

It's also looking more likely that Sidney Gale House in Bridport will be replaced with a small residential care home.

That's also came out in the consultation.

Local people want the new facility to be run by the council.  There were fears if the facility was given to the private sector local people wouldn't be able to afford the fees and would be priced out of using it.

Councillor Hayes says they'll have people's needs very much in mind:

"We're looking to provide appropriate provision and obviously the County Council don't want to see expensive provision as we have a struggling budget."
