Popular Dorset Marathon Helping Good Causes

Help for Heroes

10:13am 30th April 2014

More good causes are benefiting from the increasingly popular Purbeck Marathon!

Previously profits have been donated to charities supported by the Swanage Regatta and Carnival and Dorset's Julia's House.

£4,000 was donated to Help for Heroes last year (2013).

Named by Runner's World magazine, as the best Marathon in the UK, the Purbeck event is back in September.

Purbeck Marathon Chairman Des Connor says donations are so importantl;

 "The Purbeck Marathon is proud of its position in the community and the assistance it can provide to local charities and to some of the local volunteer organisations that have helped to stage the event.

Without the help of these volunteer organisations such as Raynet, KERV (Kimmeridge Emergency Response Volunteers) and the Swanage and Kimmeridge Coastguard The Purbeck Marathon could not take place. In our first year with a Chairman's Charity, we were also pleased to be able to give a substantial donation to Help for Heroes, a national charity that has very strong local connections.

We will be announcing a Chairman's Charity for 2014 in due course."

Alongside the donations given by The Purbeck Marathon many runners have raised funding for charities through sponsorship of their own runs.

For 2014, The Purbeck Marathon will be offering charity places. These places can be purchased by charities and offered to runners in return for a guaranteed level of sponsorship. They will also have a presence at the finish on Swanage seafront in an intended "Charities Village".
