Police Launch Support Scheme For Mental Health Sufferers

PCC Martyn Underhill

7:12am 2nd June 2014

People with mental health issues will get extra support if they find themselves in the hands of the law in Dorset.

A 12 month Street Triage pilot scheme gets underway this month.

The pilot is the brainchild of Dorset's PCC Martyn Underhill and it's been in the pipeline for some time.

It's set to transform the way Police deal with people who have mental health problems, with experts on call to offer direct advice to officers on the ground and assist them on emergency calls.

Mr Underhill says it's "crucial" people with mental health issues get the "right care" as quickly as possible in an emergency.

The triage scheme will operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
