Radical changes are ahead according to the new Labour Leader in Weymouth.

Councillor Mike Byatt now heads up the largest party on the Borough Council, and is also set to become chair of the management committee today.

Councillor Byatt who represents the Westham Ward says they have some strategic priorities to tackle, including the future prosperity of Weymouth Town Centre.

"We need to think about the use of our shop frontages.  Have we got the mix right?  Are we talking to the business and investment sector in the right why?  What we can do in terms of business rates to make it a good opportunity for businesses to operate in Weymouth Town Centre."

Councillor Byatt also spoke to Wessex FM about the future of Condor Ferries.

If Condor buy a bigger boat, £10M  of improvements will need to be made to the harbour to allow it to berth.

Councillor Byatt says finding a solution is going to be tough:

" I think we need to have further discussions to see about what can be achieved not just for the short term but for the long term future.  So I am open minded to some extent but I am also committed to make sure these issues are resolved as soon as possible so we can move forward with clarity and focus."
