Weymouth's MV Freedom to be Charged to Berth
8:15am 10th June 2014
A boat which takes disabled people out on sea trips is going to have to start paying the council for berthing in Weymouth Harbour, but the MV Freedom will be offered a reduced rate.
Its run entirely by volunteers and the majority of passengers come from local care homes and day centres in Dorset.
The boat used to be allowed to berth for free in Weymouth Harbour, but now the council say a charge needs to be applied.
But they'll get a discounted rate for being local and for being a charity with a 60% subsidy this year.
MV Freedom hope to raise the rest of the money through events and donations.
Councillors will consider the matter today at a Management Committee Meeting.
