Chickens Snatched from Orchard near Bridport

Dorset Police Car 2

4:14pm 2nd July 2014

Chicken thieves have struck in Bridport stealing 150 of the birds in two separate incidents, but from the same place.

A hundred Silver Links were taken from Strong Orchard in Salway Ash, where they're allowed to roam free, last month on Tuesday 17th June.

A week later another 50 chickens were stolen in the middle of the night (Wednesday 25th June).

Police Constable Neil Gauden, of Bridport police, said: "This is a significant and targeted theft of a large amount of livestock that has caused considerable expense and inconvenience to the victim.

"It is possible that the thieves have tried to sell the birds locally for an unusually low price or they have may have tried to take them to an abattoir.

"I urge anyone who has been approached by someone selling chickens in unusual circumstances or has concerns about suspicious behaviour to contact the police.

"Anyone with information that can help the investigation is asked to come forward as soon as possible."
