Portlanders Praise Jurassica Project
8:33am 16th July 2014
A disused quarry on Portland could be turned into a treasure trove to showcase Dorset's Jurassic history.
Mike Hanlon has been speaking to Wessex FM about a scheme he's calling Jurassica.
There's been a largely positive response from a public meeting, which Mike says he's pleased about.
He says the benefits could be huge.
"This is going to be a very good thing for the region. Bringing jobs, prosperity, bringing regeneration, and making Portland a national and indeed a global landmark."
"Part of the remit of Jurassica is to promote the coast, to increase awareness of the Jurassic coast and to conserve and display some of the fossils, bringing some stuff from private collections and from the Natural History Museum back to Dorset."
The LEP have awarded the scheme £300,000 to carry out a feasibility study.
