New Visitor Centre Opens TODAY On Portland

Portland

8:47am 17th July 2014

A new visitor information centre opens today (July 17th) on Portland.

It's at the Portland Heights Hotel, and replaces the centre closed at Portland Bill last year.

The centre will have information about local attractions, details of events, shows, public transport, gifts and souvenirs as well as a coffee shop and breath-taking views of Chesil and the Fleet Lagoon.

Mike Deadman, Visitor Information Project Assistant at the Portland Heights Hotel, said: “Portland is a fantastic place to visit.  Whether you are looking for the best views around or somewhere to go, people like to know what there is to see and do.”

Weymouth and Portland council have paid out nearly £4,500 towards the facility.

Cllr Mike Byatt, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Management Committee Chairman, said: “I am very glad we have been able to work with a great local business like the Portland Heights Hotel to make sure visitors carry on getting a good service.

“It is a mutually beneficial arrangement, that fundamentally is great news for visitors and the borough. Alternative visitor information solutions like these have to be found in these tough economic times.”
