Plans to build a slurry pit near Crossways the size of an Olympic Swimming pool have been withdrawn.

150 people turned out to a parish council meeting last week to talk about their concerns.

West Dorset District Council who were due to make a final decision say the idea's now been taken off the table.

Andrew Brewer is Chairman of Crossways Parish Council - he says it might not be over yet.

"It is still possible that the applicant may go away, reflect on what has been said, tinker with the application and resubmit it in the future.  I am really proud of the village and the way its handled this application.  People power has won out for now.  And thanks to Wessex FM for the part you played in covering the story."

Andrew said that the slurry pit would have been really unpleasant.

"There were concerns about the smell, the flies, the vermin and that people who not be able to enjoy living in the village because of the slurry and that's not what normal farms smell like."
