Open Air Bicycle Powered Cinema Coming To The Cove
9:20am 8th August 2014
An arts festival with a difference is returning to Portland next month - and they're looking for volunteers to help them out.
B-Side festival comes to the area every 2 years, and this year is held between 5th-14th September 2014. It features a variety of unique art nestled into the local landscape, with most of the displays and activities being made available for free.
Festival producer Sandy Kirkby, explained why they're different to other art shows: "We commission artists for special sites on the isle. We don't exhibit work in galleries, but the work is out in the landscape, or in unusual locations."
The art will be both visual and audio, with installations, events and live music held around Portland. Outside the Cove Inn, there will be a display of films made by young people in the area - but with a difference - the projector screening the films will be powered by bicycle!
Sandy said: "There's a project that we did with some students a couple of years ago and they developed a system to pedal-power any equipment, from amps to charging mobile phones, but also to project films outside and so this year it comes back to the festival."
