Lifeguard Swims Weymouth To Lulworth

Swim

11:48am 1st September 2014

A Dorset Lifeguard has swam from Weymouth to Lulworth to raise awareness about a local charity.

20 year-old Josh Lesley-Smith who works on beaches from Weymouth to West Bay completed about ten miles in the sea yesterday (Sunday 31st).

His Mum, Alison Lesley-Smith, works for his chosen charity 'Relate', a relationship charity, and spoke to Wessex FM about why he picked Relate:

"I work for them and he obviously understands what we do, and has helped on occasion. It's a little bit more of a private charity for people, so therefore we really want to raise that awareness to make people say 'Oh yes, they do some wonderful work working with people who have difficulties in their family or in their relationship.' We do a lot of work out in the community and it's often very personal. We want people to know they can also contact us anytime."

Alison continued to say she was very proud of her son, although she had been scared too, and that he choose to brave the freezing waters and not wear a wet suit!

Alison and Josh say if anyone wants to donate for his swim challenge they can pop into Relate in Poundbury, and they'll be collecting through September.
