UPDATED - Crews Tackle Barn Fire At Hardy Monument

Four fire engines were called to a barn near Hardy Monument this morning to tackle a fire involving hay bales.

Just after 8.30am this morning Dorset Fire and Rescue received a call to report a barn fire near Hardy Monument, Portesham. 

Two fire appliances crewed by retained firefighters from Dorchester attended the scene.  Firefighters requested the assistance of two further fire engines, a water carrier and a land rover.

Crews from Bridport, Beaminster, a Land Rover from Maiden Newton and the water carrier from Poole were also called in.

The fire was extinguished using 2 sets of breathing apparatus, 2 main lines and a hose reel jet.  The barn contains hay bales and external farm machinery was used to remove the hay.

The incident is now being scaled down to one fire engine which is a relief fire crew that is responding from Swanage Fire Station.
