Sailors Rescued From Rocks At Golden Cap
12:02pm 11th September 2014
Portland Coastguards were called to a pair of serious incidents yesterday afternoon.
Lyme Regis lifeboat came to the aid of a pair of sailors whose boat had drifted onto rocks at Golden Cap near Bridport. The pair were forced to scramble onto nearby rocks before the alarm was raised at 1.50pm.
Coastguards were able to successfully find and recover the pair to shore, both are safe and well. Their boat was salvaged and towed back to Seatown's Harbour Launch.
Later on in the day the Swanage Lifeboat came to the aid of two people trapped on an inflatable near Peveril Point. The pair were well-equipped, but their craft had been tipped over by a freak wave.
Coastguard crews reached the pair sitting on the upturned boat at just after 4pm, after a nearby rower raised the alarm. Both were taken to safety.
