Weldmar Hospicecare Summer Fete Today
8:09am 13th September 2014
Actor Martin Clunes will be among thousands enjoying the spectacle of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust's Summer Fete in Dorchester today.
The 'Doc Martin' actor, who's a patron of the charity, will be joining the Mayor of Dorchester at the event which organisers are promising will be the biggest and best to date.
Among the attractions on display at the fete are live music acts, a graffiti wall, and the big tombola. Over 40 stalls will be selling everything from books and CDs to home-made goods and produce. The Goldwing Motorbikes, Vehicles of Yesteryear, Classic Kitcar Club and Static traction engines will once again be on display, this year joined with an appearance from a barn owl.
The charity's ever-popular Silent Auction has over 80 lots up for grabs this year, including walk on parts in 'Doc Martin' and 'Arthur and George', an exclusive Downton Abbey hamper with the chance to meet Julain Fellowes, and a Broadchurch novel signed by the show's stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman and writer Chris Chibnall. Some of the items are already available for online bidding.
The Dorchester Park and Ride service will be running to the hospice and back from Dorchester Town Football Club from 1030am to 4.30pm tomorrow.
Event organiser Matt Smith said the event was something the team were looking forward to all year.
'It is a great family day out and there really is something for all ages. Every year this event has got bigger and we're now attracting supporters from outside of Dorchester.
I really do encourage people of all ages to come and havea great day out. As well as enjoying yourself you will also be supporting your local hospice, a service that is so vital here in Dorset."
