Competitors Take To The Field
8:42am 28th September 2014
West Dorset's well known for its quirky competitions, from Garlic eating to knob throwing, but this one has a 150 year tradition.
A ploughing and hedge laying competition is being held today by the Melplash Agricultural Society near Salway Ash.
Farmers will be using machinery spanning back over 60 years.
The ploughing starts at 10am and directions will be signposted from the Gollop Arms on the Broadwindsor / Salway Ash Road.
Spectators are welcome and they'll be a charity auction by local auctioneer Jim Rowe to raise funds for the Shows contribution towards the National Ploughing Championships in Yorkshire next June.
