Anger At Changes To Evening Bus Services In Dorset

7:24am 30th September 2014

A West Dorset Transport Action Group are protesting at timetable changes made by First Bus that will see cuts to some their evening services.

WATAG (West Dorset Western Area Transport Action Group) claim the changes will have a direct impact on the economy in the area, especially those working night shifts.

They're concerned that the 7.15pm bus from Dorchester to Axminster via Bridport will now be the last evening bus, despite the 5.30pm train from Waterloo not reaching Dorchester until 8.15pm.

The last X53 service will now leave Weymouth at 5.30pm, which means the 6.20pm and 7.20pm have been discontinued.

WATAG have accused First of cherry-picking the most profitable services and ignoring others.

Dorset County Councillor Ros Kayes told Wessex FM: "This affects not only people who work in London, Dorchester and Weymouth, but youngsters who want to stay on in Weymouth after college and anyone seeking to visit Dorchester in the evening without a car."
