Dorchester Town Moves Closer To Community Ownership

Dorchester Town fans could be given a greater say in how their team is run if plans to turn the club into a Community Benefit Society go ahead.

The change needs a majority vote of 75% of shareholders to go forward.

The Magpies claim research suggests the community is more likely to invest in, support and trust a community organisation and many organisations are keen to help on a voluntary basis or in return offer a trade-off such as advertising.

Chairman Matthew Lucas told Wessex FM; "With a community owned club there will be various revenue streams and grants perhaps that will be easier to go for."

"We've always felt that if we can look after Dorchester Town under the umbellar of community ownership then it would most definitely empower the supporters and everyone involved with the club."
